Good news: Verizon stores open today!
We're not even making this up, Verizon actually sent out a press release to let everyone know that their stores will be open "all day" today -- and what's more, you'll be able to purchase and take home any of its 18 offered music phones! We guess we have to hand it to these guys for making an effort (no matter how feeble) to draw some attention to themselves on iDay, though. Wait -- no we don't.

wow, way to steal their thunder verizon.
Digital Man @ Jun 29th 2007 9:08AM
Verizon must be releasing some new PDA/Smartphones today. Well, today or, sometime in 2008.
Sarah @ Jun 29th 2007 9:10AM
That kinda makes me angry because I was trying to get a new phone last week and they were out of stock on every single music phone at every single store in the metro Detroit area. And ironically enough, they told me they would have more this Friday. No sooner, no later. I ended up ordering it online.

so lame - makes me want to go to cingular (oops - at&t) even if i don't get an iPhone! Whoever's idea it was at verizon to release this press release should be fired. This is like your sister having a baby and all you can do is say "Look at me! Look at me! I can do this!"
Tim @ Jun 29th 2007 9:42AM
Hehe!
elgee02 @ Jun 29th 2007 2:09PM
Lol! Talk about perhaps the stupidest reason to leave a carrier, ha!
Joe @ Jun 29th 2007 2:27PM
That's not the reason - just the excuse :-)
elgee02 @ Jun 29th 2007 3:34PM
It's still stupid ;-)
Enrique @ Jun 29th 2007 9:27AM
What's an iPhone?
Nando @ Jun 29th 2007 9:58AM
Verizon demonstrates vPride!
Terrence Meekins @ Jun 29th 2007 10:03AM
At least they could give a release date on the xv6800. *PFFFT* so what ur open...all of your phones suck...........espcially compared to the iPhone.
vMikeE @ Jun 30th 2007 1:24PM
Completely agree with you! At least give those of us who have been MORE THAN PATIENT for the XV6800 some clue as to a release date! The argument that it will stop people from buying an XV6700 is not valid since anyone who knows the XV6800 is coming wouldn't buy an XV6700 anyway. All the secrecy around the XV6800 does is make customers angry and frustrated. :-(
poorVZ @ Jun 29th 2007 10:45AM
well, they tried... and failed. I work for vzindirect, and our reps have been frantic with every release of new information of the iPhone. it's almost funny to hear the fear in their voices, even though they simply parrot what their VZ sources tell them, instead of actually researching it for themselves. one actually quoted that the iPhone only had 8 hours of battery life... right....
Digital Man @ Jun 29th 2007 11:00AM
Chris Farley impersonating Verizon's head of Marketing:
Hey Mr. Jobs, remember the day you released the iPhone?
That was awesome.
DanielS. @ Jun 29th 2007 11:18AM
Taking there thunder? really I doubt the people that planned to buy an iphone decided to go to Verizon today and get a phone there instead
elgee02 @ Jun 29th 2007 2:09PM
I work for VZW and at my store I do get a few people "Are you guys gonna carry the iPhone?"... this is a GOLDEN opportunity.
What the average joe who has seen an iPhone commercial doesn't know (cause the commercial sure as hell doesn't tell you) is that the iPhone costs $500-$600... I love the look on people's faces when I tell them that.
Futurecelltech @ Jun 29th 2007 3:23PM
I have had to tell friends and co-workers the price when they mention they are thinking about getting an iPhone and they are usually shocked.
Side note - when is VZW going to have a buddy finder on par with Helio's? I know about the recent location sending feature.
Futurecelltech @ Jun 29th 2007 3:32PM
Digital Man - hilarious.
Hey Verizon, you remember the time you were open as normal and had nothing new to offer when AT&T and Apple got a bazillion dollars in free advertising with the release of the iPhone?
That was aw..uhh..stupid...stupid.
VZW- can you hear America now wanting breakthrough devices?
Graham @ Jun 29th 2007 3:50PM
Verizon absolutely deserves to fail.
I'm glad that the iPhone, if nothing else, will light a fire under the other carriers and hopefully make them realize that, golly gee, maybe people actually want nice devices! And maybe they don't want a beyond-horrible OS put on every one of them! And maybe they want to be able to use them however they want instead of having to pay for features that the manufacturer put it for free!
Don't mind me, just bitter... :D
elgee02 @ Jun 29th 2007 4:18PM
For every customer that wants a so-called "nice device" there are 5 that "just want a phone". VZW's "horrid" UI is exceptionaly user friendly and for every hater of it out there, there are also 5 people who have no complaints about it all. That's why VZW has been out performing all the other carries in Net Adds and Churn quarter after quarter.
Omagus @ Jun 29th 2007 5:13PM
Despite the fact that I think it's hideous, I don't have a problem with Verizon having their own UI. What I have a problem with is their insistence on putting it on all of their phones. If the manufacturers intended for a phone to be used a certain way, shouldn't I at least be allowed the OPTION of using it that way? Instead Verizon insists on all phones conforming.
And, by the way, just because someone doesn't like Verizon's UI, that doesn't make them a hater. Once upon a time, people used to be allowed to offer opinions...
Graham @ Jun 29th 2007 7:37PM
Omagus: agreed.
As for Verizon's UI being "user friendly", a good UI is simple enough that anyone can understand and use it, while not getting in the way of more advanced users.
elgee02 @ Jun 29th 2007 8:07PM
"As for Verizon's UI being "user friendly", a good UI is simple enough that anyone can understand and use it, while not getting in the way of more advanced users."
Exactly, just like VZW's. I am not saying it's "better" than the manufactures UI, but it's certainly nowhere near as bad as some make it seem. A lot of the new phones have different flash themes for the UI so you don't have to look at those red bars (that annoyed me too). VZW has made strides in making Bluetooth more user friendly too (still not perfect, I know) but 99% of customers I talk to about bluetooth are only interesting in pairing with a headset anyways.
PEZ @ Jun 29th 2007 5:00PM
AHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA
C@rL0$ @ Jun 29th 2007 10:37PM
Good to see verizon standing their ground and still competing for sales regardless of the iphone debut
